Everyone seemed even more on edge as we packed up our things the following morning. There was a lot at stake, even if we hadn’t voiced much about it. If we didn’t find any clues about how to get the ember out of Fifi, we could face serious trouble.
Vilairus was still mostly an unknown. Would he take his sister back with him with the ember still burning inside her? Would he be condemning her to death? If he left her, would their father come after her? If we got the ember out of Fifi, would he leave us in peace? It was no surprise that he had stayed relatively quiet for most of our trip. He was watching our surroundings if he wasn’t observing his sister.
