Forty: Prince Cadoc

1032 Words

Chapter Forty   Prince Cadoc Penelope was back. I should have been happy about this, but every time I saw her, all I could think of was Gwyneth. Gwyneth, trying to control my life, and Lord Crowe lurking in the shadows with his hidden agendas. The romanticism that I looked at her with before was gone. Now, I could only see shadows lurking around her. Every time she tried talking with me, I avoided her. I managed it for a week, until I went home one week and I found her on the doorstep of my apartment. “Cadoc,” she said, with a smile on her face. Seeing her happy only made it worse. “Lady Crowe,” I said with a polite nod. Her face fell. “Cadoc. Come on. Nothing’s changed.” “Everything’s changed,” I said, running a hand through my blond hair, “come on. You should come inside.”
