The thing about having privilege is, you don’t ever have to think about being safe. You start to believe you are invincible because you can use money to get whatever it is that you want. I could get arrested of murder, be out on bail, and have the judge paid off all within twenty-four hours. That was the kind of life that I lived in. I could buy whatever I wanted. Do whatever I wanted. And walk away with my hands clean.
For the most part.
When you were a woman, it didn’t matter how much money you had. Someone was always going to try to take something from you. Money. Power. Glory. Because women weren’t supposed to have those things. Worse, it didn’t help that I’d once dated the Prince of Wales. No one took me seriously.
