4 Mallory watched the approaching helo from one direction. The rapidly thickening smoke from behind. And her jump team shifting into action below. “Wish I was with you guys.” Because if she was, she wouldn’t be dangling up here with her wrist swelling painfully against the glove and cuff of her jump gear. She considered easing it, but even the thought of touching it sent shivers through her. Shivers that she hoped the dead tree didn’t pick up on and decide it was time to snap off. Besides, if it was a bad break, the cuff might be the only thing stabilizing her wrist.
