7 Ty knew he wasn’t being smooth, but he couldn’t seem to do much about it. Mallory wasn’t just beautiful—which she absolutely was—she was also a smokejumper. That was about the coolest thing he could imagine. He made sure that she was set up in a lawn chair under one of the few shade maples. It was in the grassy area along the edge of their paved corner of the Missoula airport. It was close by the Zulies’ white-and-brown headquarters building. The Missoula smokejumpers were fully engaged in this firefight, and all of their tanker assets were as well. There was a hustle and buzz of activity all around them that resounded with activity. Air tankers ripped down out of the sky. In minutes, they were loaded up with a thousand gallons or more of viscous red fire retardant and sent back aloft
