5 Jana woke slowly with her head nestled cozily in someone’s lap. It was warm there. Safe. The roar of a diesel engine was distant. Muted. A cool hand rested for a moment on her forehead. She didn’t remember taking a lover to bed last night. She hadn’t taken one in a long, long time that she could recall. There was a hard jostle, enough to make her head explode with pain.
