Morris POV
I really wanted to cancel this client's dinner at the Yellow Flower, but the new client is important to the company's future. Granger Incorporated will make it easier for the company to meet the demands of the Lincoln Group. Besides, I couldn't offend them since they work closely with the Lincoln Group. I had hoped Elise would join me, but she promised my sister to keep the kids while her and Derek went away for a few days.
I would much rather be at home spending time with my daughter, niece, and nephew. I look out the window just in time to see Dante pull in beside me. Since Derek and Briar are going to a private island, he is my security tonight. Which couldn't be weirder, but I promised Elise that if she and Emmy had protection, so would I.
I step out of my car just in time to see my brother's smirk. "Don't start Dante. Elise is the only reason you're here. The guy Trevor set up can't start until Monday." "Don't be a baby. Who is better to watch your back than someone who loves you? Now let's go because I'm starving. I'll be seated at the bar, but I'll have eyes on you the whole night."
"You are not following me into the bathroom, Dante." "Like hell, I'm not. That is probably one of the easiest places to get you alone or you don't remember what happened at Elise's show," he says. "Fine, but I want it noted I hate this babysitting sh*t." He throws his head back and laughs before we make our way toward the door.
As we approach the podium, I notice the host eyeing us as if we're her next meal. I clear my throat, and she has the good sense to look embarrassed. "Just the two of you," she quickly says. "No, I have a meeting with Leon Martin." "I'll just be taking a seat at the bar," Dante says. "Follow me sir" she says to me. We weave in and out of tables before we reach a table near the back of the restaurant. Leon along with two other men, are already seated with drinks in front of them.
He stands as soon as he sees me. The other men follow suit. He extends his hand, and we shake before we all have a seat. "Thank you for meeting with me here, Morris. This is my cousin's restaurant and I always try to dine here when I'm in town," Leon says. "Of course, the food here is amazing, so it's no hardship for our meeting to be held here."
"I'll pass that praise on to my cousin" he says. The conversation flows easily, and the food is as good as I remember. The waitress seemed shocked when I declined a drink. "Morris, if you're concerned about driving, I could have my car service take you home. I think you should have at least one drink to celebrate our new deal," Leon says when the waitress approaches me for the third time.
"As much as I appreciate the offer, I'm fine with just the water. If you gentlemen will excuse me, I'm going to head to the men's room." They nod, and I stand making my way through the restaurant. I don't look back to see where Dante is because I know my brother is already following me. For all the jabs, he is very serious about protecting me or anyone under his charge.
I push open the bathroom door and head for the urinal. Once I'm positioned, I start to undo my pants. When I hear the door open behind me, I don't turn because I already know it's Dante. "I hope you at least have to pee, or you could have waited outside." "No, I don't, but I would like to at least peek at what you are hiding under those pants" a familiar female voice says. I immediately put myself away and do up my pants.
When I turn, I come face to face with Loreli and a man I recognize from the day I took her to the hotel. The smile on her face has me seething inside. "What the f**k are you doing here?" "Now is that anyway to talk to a friend, Morris," she says. "You are no friend of mine, so get the f**k out of my way before I call the police and have you arrested for stalking" I say as I pull my phone from my pocket. Fear flashes in her eyes, but she quickly schools her expression.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. I'm sure you don't want to see anything happen to the man at the bar who is supposed to be protecting you," she says. My finger freezes over the dial button. "Where is my brother?" The smile from earlier returns and she claps her hands with excitement. "That's even better. Wait till Jules finds out Trey has another son. Since he is your brother, which means you won't want anything to happen to him," she says.
"So this is what's going to happen. You are going to say your goodbyes, and then you're going to meet me and Evan in front of the restaurant. If you do anything stupid, Jules is going to put a bullet in your brother's head. Just so you know, she is wrapped to tight, so I wouldn't try her."
Something in Loreli's voice makes me pause. For the first time, I notice something other than smugness in her expression. "Did you hear what she said? The clock is ticking a**hole," the man with her says. "Calm down, Evan. Morris is a smart man. He will do as he's told," she says before they both leave me alone in the bathroom. F**k I say out loud before I punch the wall. I quickly dial Dennis and pray he answers.
"Hey man, are you done with your meeting already?" "Dennis, can you track my phone or Dante's phone?" "Yes, what's going on Morris?" "I don't have a lot of time, but Loreli and Jules have Dante. I have to go with them, but I have no idea if they will take my phone or if Dante still has his." "Where are you now," he asks, and I can hear he is already moving in the background.
"I'm still at the Yellow Flower." "Can you ask anyone to have their phone before they take you? I know they might think you're crazy if you can't explain, but the a**holes won't suspect you having another phone," he says. Footsteps have me hanging up and sliding my phone back into my pocket. When the door slams open, the a**hole from earlier steps inside and gets into my face. "You must not care too much about your brother to still be here making phone calls. Give me your f**king phone now and move your a**," he says.
I hand over my phone and follow him out of the bathroom. I head directly to the table where Leon and his associates are still drinking their brandy. He must see something in my expression because he sits up straighter as I approach. God, I pray that this plan works.
Dante POV
F**k my head is pounding. I feel like I ran into a brick wall. I manage to force my eyes open, but I close them just as quickly. What the f**k? When I open them again I'm not sure where the f**k I am, but I do know I'm tied to a chair. It looks like a normal bedroom, but I've never been in it before. Where is Morris? I immediately start to work the ropes that are holding me in place.
The sound of the lock disengaging has me freezing in place. When the door opens, a woman I've never seen before steps into the room. She looks me over before a sinister smile spreads across her face. "So you are another of Trey's ba**ard children. I should have known he would have more than just that b**ch Briar," the woman says.
"Don't you call my sister a b**ch. Who the f**k are you?" "I am the woman that is going to destroy everything that Trey McNair touched," she says. "You are a little late if you're trying to hurt my sperm donor, since he has been dead for a while." "I may not be able to hurt him, but I can still destroy all of you. Destroy the company he built. Destroy his weak pathetic ex-wife after I destroy her f**king son. My child should have been the one to live and have everything."
I throw my head back and laugh. "So you are another woman who thought you were special to the womanizer. The man would stick his d**k in anything that was willing and some that weren't. You weren't special." Her palm connects with my cheek and my head snaps to the side. I feel the blood on my teeth, but it doesn't stop me from smiling at the b**ch. "I'm confused what your end game is by taking me. I have nothing to do with the company. Louise is not my mother." She doesn't need to know, I consider her my second mother.
She smiles and bends so we are eye to eye. "Your brother is on his way here. Once Loreli helps me make him look just like the apple didn't fall far from the tree, he will lose everything. His wife won't be able to ignore videos and pictures now will she," she says like what she is saying makes perfect sense. I start to fight against my restraints. I can't let this happen.
