I keep myself under house arrest for a week. Seth doesn't seem to mind. I think he might be starting to feel bad for me—not in a sympathetic way but in a pitying way. I care little about it. Jeremy believes the potential fragmentation of this rogue pack is a good thing and I'd like to be of the same mentality as him when it comes to that. It is, luckily, a rainy day. It's also the first week of September and the leaves are in full fall-and-decay mode, drifting from the trees like gold flakes and disintegrating on the ground like burned paper. I stare out the window more and more these days. It feels like life imitates art out here—I have seen this landscape a thousand times in paintings but never like this.
