July arrived with a heat wave and a certified letter from Julian's attorney.
He was contesting Victoria's will.
I found out through Natasha, who called me at the gallery on a Tuesday afternoon, her voice low like she was hiding in a bathroom somewhere.
"He filed last week. He's claiming Damien was mentally incompetent when Victoria updated her will after the accident."
"That's insane. Damien was running the company by then."
"Julian knows that. It's not about winning. It's about forcing a settlement."
After we hung up, I sat with it for ten minutes before calling Damien.
"I know," he said when I told him. "James just informed me."
"How are you?"
"Annoyed. Not surprised." A pause. "He's going to drag everything up. The accident, the amnesia, the divorce. All of it."
