The morning crept in quietly, spilling pale light across the cabin’s floorboards. Outside, frost clung to the grass — but inside, the air was heavy and hot, thick with something Azeo couldn’t name. He woke first. The scent of her hit him before his eyes even opened — sharp, electric, threaded with smoke and something wild. His wolf stirred uneasily beneath his skin. McKenna lay beside him, tangled in sheets, her breathing uneven. A faint shimmer rolled beneath her skin, like embers trapped just below the surface. He reached out, brushing his knuckles against her arm. The heat that met his touch made him flinch. “Kenna…” His voice was rough with sleep and worry. “You’re burning up again.” Her lashes fluttered, and when she opened her eyes, Azeo froze. They weren’t just gold anymore.
