But the whispers reached Theo before the morning training session had even ended.
Sect, the quiet and unassuming warrior Theo had placed among the ranks to observe and report, slipped into his office without a sound. He bowed respectfully before speaking in a low voice.
“My Alpha… it’s about Gamma Jihoo,” Sect began. “Three warriors under his command have been deliberately disobeying his orders. They claim he’s unfit to lead them.”
Theo’s eyes narrowed, the golden flecks in his irises catching the light. “Names?”
Sect listed them without hesitation. Theo’s jaw tightened, but he forced himself to remain calm. “And Jihoo… how has he responded?”
“He handled them firmly, my Alpha. Corrected them in front of the others. But they resent him now. I fear they might push further.”
Theo dismissed Sect with a nod, then leaned back in his chair. He had chosen Jihoo for his discipline and integrity, but he knew the young Gamma’s kind nature could sometimes lead him to avoid conflict. If these warriors thought they could undermine his authority, they were mistaken.
Without delay, he sent for Jihoo.
The Gamma entered moments later, his uniform still neat despite the training dust. “You sent for me, Alpha?”
Theo studied him for a long moment before speaking. “I’ve heard… troubling things. Is it true that some warriors have been challenging your orders?”
A flicker of something crossed Jihoo’s eyes—guilt, perhaps worry—but he shook his head. “It’s nothing serious, Alpha. Just minor misunderstandings. I can handle it.”
Theo’s voice hardened. “Jihoo.” The single word cut through the air like a blade. “Do not lie to me. You are my Gamma. If there’s a problem, I must know it. Hiding it only makes it worse.”
Jihoo looked down, shoulders tense. “I didn’t want you to be disappointed. I thought… if I proved myself without troubling you, it would be better.”
Theo stood, stepping closer until his shadow fell over the younger man. “Listen to me carefully. A Gamma who hides threats from his Alpha is as dangerous as the threats themselves. Do not confuse my trust with disinterest—I placed you in this position because I believe in you.”
Jihoo swallowed, nodding slowly.
Theo’s tone softened, though his eyes still held steel. “You did well to put those men in their place. But do not waver. Authority must be constant. The moment they sense hesitation, they’ll strike harder.”
Jihoo straightened, resolved firming in his expression. “Understood, Alpha. I won’t fail you.”
Theo placed a hand on his shoulder briefly—a rare gesture of approval. “Good. Now go. And make sure they never question who their Gamma is again.”
As Jihoo left, a quiet determination burned in him. The next time those warriors crossed him, they would regret it. But the next day, something else happened.
---
The afternoon sun beat down mercilessly on the training field, heat shimmering above the hard-packed earth. The air was thick with the sound of grunts, the thud of fists meeting flesh, and the sharp crack of wooden practice weapons clashing together.
Jihoo stood at the center, his commanding presence directing the warriors through their drills. But his sharp gaze caught on three particular warriors lingering at the back — men who had become notorious for their rebellious streak. Most of the warriors had obeyed without hesitation—except for the same three who had been a constant thorn in his side. They dragged their feet, exchanged mocking glances, and refused to follow orders.
It wasn’t the first time. The others had grown tired of their antics. Murmurs of frustration rippled through the group until one warrior finally snapped.
“Maybe if you actually followed orders, you wouldn’t be so useless,” one of the younger fighters snapped, voice edged with frustration.
The three men turned sharply, their eyes flashing with hostility. “Watch your mouth, pup,” one of them spat, his tone carrying a barely veiled insult aimed directly at Jihoo. “Some of us don’t take orders from dogs who got their rank handed to them.”
Gasps rippled across the training field. The insult was indirect, but everyone understood exactly who they meant.
The tension thickened instantly. Words turned sharper, bodies shifted into aggressive stances, and the sound of weapons being gripped tighter echoed through the air. The orderly rhythm of training shattered into a growing storm of tempers.
Jihoo’s jaw tightened. He was just about to step in when a new presence rolled across the training ground — dark, heavy, and suffocating.
“The Alpha is here!” someone gasped.
The murmurs died. Even the air seemed to still.
Theo had been standing a short distance away all along, now, he stood at the edge of the field, arms folded across his broad chest, his sharp eyes locked on the scene before him. He hadn’t spoken a word, yet the sheer weight of his aura had frozen every man in place. None of them had noticed his arrival. He had been watching silently — long enough to see exactly who had started this.
His gaze cut through the warriors like a blade, finally settling on the three troublemakers. The silence stretched, oppressive and suffocating. Beads of sweat trickled down the backs of the three men as their bravado began to crumble.
Theo stepped forward, each slow stride heavy with restrained fury. His voice, when it came, was calm — far too calm.
“So… you think yourselves above discipline?” His words dripped with mockery, each syllable cold enough to freeze the blood in their veins.
The rest of the warriors stood rigid, their hearts pounding, wondering if they had just witnessed the last mistake those men would ever make.
“Is this what you call warriors? Petty tongues and lazy feet?” He let the words drip with disdain. “You dare undermine my Gamma in front of the pack? Then you dare undermine me. You can’t even follow your Gamma’s orders, yet you strut around as if you’ve earned the right to stand on this field.”
No one dared breathe.
He stopped directly before them, his shadow stretching over their bowed heads. “Let me make something very clear,” he said, his voice dropping into a deadly growl. “Jihoo is your Gamma. His word is my word. Defy him again…” He paused, letting the silence linger until the men trembled visibly, “…and you will not be punished with mere drills or confinement. I will personally see to it that your heads decorate the pack’s gates as a warning to the next fool who tries it.”
A shiver rippled through the gathered warriors.
“Alpha Damian is aware of jihoo's position as the Gamma here, and there, as well as here, we don't tolerate indiscipline, Schemes, or betrayals” Theo’s eyes swept over the rest of the group, his voice rising so all could hear. “This pack does not tolerate weakness, disobedience, or disrespect to its leaders. If you can’t follow that, you are nothing but dead weight — and dead weight is cut loose. Just dare his authority again and see for yourselves. But..” his tone sharpened into steel “It’s just that—you will not live to regret it.”
He turned sharply, the matter settled without a single physical blow. But the silence that followed was thick with the unspoken truth: Theo’s authority was absolute, and Jihoo’s position had just been cemented in blood and fear.
