“Sophie… Sophie, can you hear me?”
The soft-spoken voice lulls me to open my eyes. I’m not sure how long I was asleep for, but when I wake up, I realize I’m not at home.
I’m lying on a bed of sand and I hear the waves crashing. Looking around, I realize that I’m at a beach. The sun is shining in the sky and all around me, I see miles and miles of crystal blue water.
“Sophie?”
The voice calls out again and I turn around, and my jaw falls to the ground.
“Mom!”
I spring to my feet as I see my mother standing in front of me. She looks beautiful and healthy, unlike how she was on her last days in that hospital bed.
“Sophie, sweetheart!” She hugs me back. “I missed you!”
