My jaw clenches when I hear the word “prom”.
Prom is next Saturday and that day also happens to be Sophie’s birthday. I was actually planning something special for her, but now, this makes things very complicated.
“How do you think we should proceed?” Leon’s words cut through my train of thought.
“If we wanna play it safe, you don’t have to go to prom and avoid this thing altogether, and I’ll do what they say, but I’ll make sure there’s no casualty,” Reed adds.
“No,” I shake my head at the idea. “We’re not gonna get anywhere playing it safe,”
Sure, if we play it safe, we can avoid a confrontation, but then what? We have an opportunity to strike when they’re not expecting it, so we must take it.
