Diana’s pov
That would explain why I didn’t hear anything or catch the scent from my room.
My eyes landed on Justin and his father.
Then, at my parents, tears filled my eyes as I looked at them.
I might have been trained to be a warrior, but I am still my parents' daughter.
“Why?” I asked, my voice trembled, and came out as a whisper.
They were supposed to be here to celebrate my birthday and not m******e everyone.
“Does it matter?” the Alpha King asked.
He sounded almost insulted by the fact that I dared to question him.
I would ask why my parents had to be killed in this manner.
Justin started walking towards him, and he flashed me that boy-next-door smile.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Ezra said, his eyes never leaving mine.
Justin’s hand touched mine, as if he was trying to soothe me.
I punched him as hard as I could, and he hit the nearest wall.
There were now guards behind these people, and I wasn’t on my side anymore.
“Give up, Diana, you can’t win against them. Count yourself lucky that your head isn’t separated from your body,” one of them said as he approached me from behind.
I slit his throat in a matter of seconds before his hands could touch me.
My claws now dripping with blood, I looked at the Alpha King.
He seemed almost amused by what was happening here.
I want to kill him, I want to wipe that smile off his face, and avenge my parents.
The guards behind me started moving towards me once again.
But this time, they were cautious; they didn’t want to meet the same fate as their little buddy.
“Stand down, you lot aren’t strong enough to stand against her. All she is going to do is wipe the floor with you all,” Ezra said, his eyes still pinned on me.
Looking at him, at the indifference in his eyes, I felt my heart break one more time.
“Get her under control, be careful not to kill her. She is the daughter of an Alpha. I plan to get you married to her. I am sure your offspring will be the ultimate weapons,” the Alpha King said, looking at Ezra.
He seemed almost bored as he walked towards me.
“If I accidentally kill her, don’t blame me,” Ezra answered his father with a smirk.
One moment he was standing next to his father, and the next moment he was right behind me.
I turned around the moment I felt his presence and got ready to attack.
But it was already too late, I was now flying across the room, and my back hit the window.
Just one kick did that.
It has so much force and power that all I could do was use my hands to lessen the blow.
The wind outside was cold, and yet the moon looked almost undisturbed.
It was the same colour as it always has been, as if tonight my entire world didn’t just come crashing down.
Or maybe the moon didn’t care about any of it.
I felt his presence behind me.
How is he this fast?
I can tell where he is, but my reaction time isn’t the best.
I thought that, like last time, he would kick or punch me.
But no, this time he wrapped his arms around me.
And then his back hit the tree with so much force that it fell.
I felt it as the air was forced out of his lungs, and he groaned in pain.
I felt the force too, but because he was holding me, it didn’t hurt as much.
He slowly let me go, and I got out of his arms to look at him.
What the hell is going on here?
Why aren’t his actions and words matching?
He was talking about killing me a few moments ago, and now he is protecting me.
“What game are you playing?” I asked him, and he looked at me.
He got up like he didn’t just break a f*****g tree with his back.
“Why are you asking me questions, Diana? Your beloved parents are dead. Does any of this look like a game to you?” he asked me.
A valid question, really; it doesn’t matter if he is playing games or not.
It doesn’t matter what his intentions are right now.
The only thing that truly matters is that I avenge my parents.
And so, all the other questions were pushed to the back of my mind as I went after him.
A few minutes later, I found myself panting as I looked at him.
“Why aren’t you fighting back? All you are doing is defending,” I said to him, and he just shrugged.
His face was cold, which made me realize I was being a complete fool.
The reason he is not attacking me or fighting back is that his father told him so.
Otherwise, if it were up to him, he would have killed me a long time ago.
I should stop trying to read into any of this. I found myself laughing at this.
The cold look on his face faltered for a second as he looked at me.
“You know, for a second there I thought you genuinely cared about me,” I said, and his face didn’t move.
No sign at all that what I was saying touched him.
“Yes, you have always had this weird obsession with me. And I thought that maybe, just maybe, you cared about me,” I said, and then started sobbing.
Everything was a lie, Justin’s affection, and also whatever that was with Ezra.
It was all a lie.
I looked up, and I saw it, for a second, he lost his focus.
I took the time and went straight for his neck, but at the last moment, he moved.
Instead, I clawed at his shoulder, and he looked at me with a smile.
“I refuse to be your wife. I would rather die than be tied to you for the rest of my life,” I said, my voice cold even for my own ears.
“Really? I mean, you could kill me instead. Why take your own life?” Ezra asked with a smile on his face.
This son of a b***h finds all of this amusing.
“I am going to kill you first. If I am going down, then you're coming down with me,” I answered.
‘No, please don’t kill mate,’ a voice in my head said, and I stopped in my tracks.
‘What did you just say?’ I asked because I couldn’t believe it.
Did my wolf just call Ezra mate?
