The secrets of the shadow pack

Chapter 2

Luna Brainy

"Mom, what is going on?" Rosslyn, my always curious girl, asks me. She is always people watching, and taking everything in. She notices everything and is very observant. She loves to learn, and I hate that she was exposed to all of this. All 3 of my babies, but she is a girl, and I never wanted her father to be her first heartbreak. By the way, her face fell, though. I have a feeling it's too late now.

"Nothing sweet, pea. Everything is fine," I lie. "Then, why did that woman say she is daddy's girlfriend, and why did daddy say that woman is pregnant with his pup and moving in? That's not what is supposed to happen between mates." She really took it all in. I was hoping she didn't. She is too smart for her own good. "Sweet pea, sometimes adults make mistakes," I say. Raine scoffs. "Dad cheated on you, and got his mistress pregnant. That is not a mistake, mom. That is a weak alpha who has no self-control." My son is so right. He is so smart and will be a powerful Alpha, as long as he stays true to himself.

"Now you know exactly what not to be like, son. Mates are supposed to be our biggest blessings. When you find yours, don't cheat or break her heart, son. Make sure you cherish your mate. Mate bonds should be the most sacred bond in the world. Promise me you all will always be true to your mates," he nods, and so does Rossy.

"I promise to never be a weak Alpha. I will be faithful to my mate. I promise," Raine tells me. "I wHe even holds his hand up for his promise.

"I will wait for my mate. I promise mommy," My Rossy girl tells me. I know she will. She is an angel. I just hope the moon goddess blesses her with an amazing mate. I don't ever want my baby girl to suffer the way I have had to. She deserves a great life. The best life. Raze is still a baby, so he can't make any promises, but I hope he grows up and is a good man and mate.

Before they get on the bus, I promised we would watch a movie tonight at my mom's house. She lives in an old cottage by the lake. We spend most days there, because she has a herb in her yard that helps me when my mate is with his mistresses, and she doesn't know that I come here to load up on it. No-one knows I am so doped up on this herb, that I can barely feel anything anymore. The only things I ever feel are hurt and the long-lasting feeling of betrayal that my mate has left behind. My wolf told me that feeling will never go away. Our mate wrecked our bond, and until we reject and separate, the betrayal will just continue to grow.

The bus drives away, and I wave back at my Rossy girl, who has tears in her eyes. I blow a kiss before they get too far to see me. I say a quick prayer, hoping the moon goddess or the gods hear me. "I love you, my pups, and I will do any and everything for you. Even if it means enduring this life just a bit more, but I promise I will get you out of here, and figure something out. Maybe not my Raine, but he will be Alpha, and I can always visit him. Just keep them safe from their father's bad choices," I say.

"Now, let's get you off to grandma's," I walk to my mom's to drop off the baby. "Are you okay?" she asks me. "I'm fine, mom." She doesn't look convinced. "You look tired and sad. Have you been crying? We can always go back to the shadow pack if you are not happy here." My Rossy gets it from my mother. She notices everything. I can't let her find out the truth though. I can't be another disappointment for mom. She has had enough with all the betrayals in our bloodline. I decide to just change the conversation.

"We have guests in the pack house. Once Raine and Rossy get home, I will send them here," She sighs, but she nods. I turn to walk away, but she grabs my wrist. "Are you sure you are okay, Brainy? You know you can tell me anything," she tells me. I want to tell my mother, but she never got over my father's death, and I don't want to put more things on her. She doesn't need more sadness, so I just tell her everything is alright. I walk out, and head straight to her yard.

I sense someone approaching me quickly. Luckily, it is not my mate. He is the last person I want to see. "Luna," Sal shows himself. He watches me shove herbs in my mouth and shove more into my pockets, and my bag. He doesn't say anything, but he is a werewolf, so he knows exactly why I need them. He watches me for a bit, before he finally speaks.

"I can help you, Luna. I have an acquaintance in Switzerland that I can call. He will take you all in, and the Alpha will never know, but it might take a couple of days to get it all situated," he tells me, but I shake my head. "Raine is the next Alpha. He is already being trained for the position. I can't take that away from him, and I don't want to be separated from my pups. I want Rosslyn to train and get stronger. I will just have to endure for now," I tell him. He looks conflicted, but he nods. "I will still get in contact with the other pack. I want to be ready for when you are ready to go. Things aren't looking good here. Richard bit off more than he could chew," It's not good when the gamma isn't even sure about our pack anymore. What has Richard done?

I decide to stop by the coffee shop and take a stroll around the woods. I need to clear my mind, and think about my exit plan. I turn off my mind link, so I can relax a bit. I take a seat near a huge rock. I pull my phone out, and I dial my best friend's phone number. It rings twice before she answers it. "Brains," "Mika," we both say once she answers. Mika is the not only my best friend, she is also the Luna to the Nightcrawlers. She has two pups. Her son, Axel, who just had his Alpha ceremony and took over their pack, and her daughter Amerie. Our pups are the same ages, and also best friends. Raine and Axel train together, and so do Rosslyn, and Amerie. I don't even have to say any words. She knows if I am calling, then something is wrong. "Tell me what's wrong," She knows I don't normally call. I hate having to use my cell phone. "Can you come see me this evening? I have so much to tell you. I need help," I say. "Of course. I can meet you at your mother's cottage," I think I am ready to tell people what is going on. "Great, see you later." I say. "Brains, I love you forever, okay," I smile. At least someone has genuine love to offer me. "Thank you. I love you forever, too," I hang up, and decide to just relax and have a shopping trip. Rossy needs a dress for her brother's Alpha ceremony, and so do I, so I decide to focus on that instead of what is going on inside of the pack house. I don't bother to let my mate know. He deserves nothing from me anymore. I link Sal to bring me a set of keys and I head out.

Alpha Richard

"Where is that mate of yours? How does she maintain the pack, yet hasn't come back to help me get settled. She needs to start catering to me. I am carrying your pup, after all," Nancy tells me. Alpha Salomon just looks annoyed. I try to link my mate, but she has me blocked. F*ck. I need to find her. Salomon requested she is present for everything. His help comes with rules and conditions, and all involve Brainy. "He wants to humiliate her," my wolf snarls. "No way, she comes from his pack. He is just looking out for her. That is why he is helping me keep this all a secret." I remind my wolf, who chuckles. "Stup1d human," he says before retreating again. I have been seeing less and less of my wolf lately too. Did he really mean that if I lost Brainy, I will lose him too? I push it all to the back burner. I have bigger things to focus on now.

"Salvador, where is my mate?" I ask my Gamma. "The Luna had some business she had to attend to. She said she wouldn't be back for some time," I feel my anger starting to build. "Who the f*ck told her she could leave? I gave her strict orders," Salvador just puts his head down.

"Alpha, you know Luna Brainy doesn't answer to anyone but herself," Alpha Salomon chuckles. "That's why she kept getting in trouble when she was in my pack. She never fell in line," I chuckle. "That's Brainy," but he doesn't look amused. "No worries, that's why we have omegas. When the Lunas want to be bratty, we call in backup." I link some omegas and have them handle it. I try my mate's mind link over and over again. I call her phone, and nothing. What the h3ll Brainy? Why is she acting emotional and weak a$$ h3ll? She is literally embarrassing me in front of another pack. How could she do this to me?
