My phone rang at six in the morning.
Unknown number.
I answered. "Yeah?"
"Enjoyed the show last night," Carter said.
I sat up. Mira was still asleep next to me.
"What do you want?"
"Just wanted to let you know what's coming. Since you like burning down my businesses."
"You started this."
"And I'm going to finish it. But not the way you think."
I got out of bed. Walked to the living room. Closed the bedroom door behind me.
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm done going after your property, Ridge. That's not working. So I'm going after something that will actually hurt you."
"Carter."
"Your old ladies. All of them. Starting with that pretty little thing you've been hiding at the clubhouse. What's her name? Mira?"
My blood went cold.
"You touch her and I'll kill you."
