We sat on the couch for a while. Just being together.
Mira was still reading her book. I was thinking about everything Dad had said.
About being president. About making hard decisions. About losing people.
Then I looked at Mira. "Hey, you don't have to stay locked in here anymore. I was being overprotective earlier."
She looked up. "What?"
"You can leave the section. Walk around. Spend time with the other women. Just stay inside the compound."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. You've been cooped up in here since the lockdown started. And I've got things to do. Preparations to make. You don't need to sit here alone all day."
She closed her book. "What kind of preparations?"
"Just making sure we're ready. When Knox gets intel on Carter, we need to be prepared to move."
