Hoang hasn’t changed over the months. It seems as if he’s getting worse. He wrecked Lah Ann’s car while he and Lin, his mistress, were out drinking. The only reason he didn't go to jail was that he called his mother to send a wrecker to the accident. Hoang was driving on a country road, and it was late; no one witnessed him losing control of the car and driving head-on into a tree. He broke his arm and Lin hit her head on the dashboard and had a few minor cuts on her forehead. He told Lah Ann that her car had been stolen. She wasn’t able to collect insurance for her car because Hoang wouldn't allow her to report the vehicle stolen. As for the reason he broke his arm, he said he fell at his parents’ house. She didn't question or ask him about it again.
