Chapter 18 The next morning, when I open my eyes, I see an empty pillow. “Baby?” I’m already out of bed and jumping into my jeans. “Alistair?” The apartment is so quiet. The silence makes me sick. Golden light filters through the curtains in the living room window and I know he’s gone. I don’t know why I know. But I know. I check the kitchen anyway. He’s not there. I throw on a sweater.
