The royal dressing chamber was draped in gold and silk. Sunlight spilled through the tall windows, catching on every polished surface. Outside the door, voices echoed faintly. Nobles had begun to gather for the evening banquet. Inside, the servant stood behind the princess, pulling the silk strings of the royal gown tight around her waist. Her fingers trembled as they worked through the loops, brushing against soft skin that made heat curl low in her stomach. She had been here a hundred times before. But never like this. Never after nights tangled in silk sheets, breathless and bare in the princess’s arms. “Too loose,” the princess said softly.
