Leon POV

Leon POV Anna’s outburst had caught me completely off guard. I had always remembered her as gentler, more reserved, someone who measured her words and her reactions. But seeing her now, standing her ground, fiery and unyielding, made my chest swell with pride. She wasn’t just my mate—she was fierce, independent, and astonishingly brave. “What was that, Jason?” I snapped, my irritation sharper than I expected. That was exactly why we’d kept our distance on Friday. “I saw our mate with another man,” Jason admitted, rubbing the back of his neck, a flicker of guilt crossing his features. “I lost it. I couldn’t know he was just a friend—and that he already has a mate. And besides… you were angry too.” “Of course I was angry,” I admitted, exhaling slowly. “But that… that was over the top. We blew it, Jason. Completely. This wasn’t supposed to happen. We need to fix it tomorrow.” I couldn’t stop thinking about the fear I had seen flash in her eyes. It had been brief, almost swallowed up by her anger, but it was there. That tiny spark of fear… and it stabbed me. Fear that my mate could feel anything but safety with me. “Do you think she can forgive us?” I asked quietly, almost to myself. Jason’s brows knitted with worry. The rejection from Anna had hit him hard. I understood—her hesitation wasn’t just about us; it was about trust, control, and perhaps a lifetime of caution. Until now, we’d assumed she would accept us, that the moment we revealed ourselves, she would surrender to the bond, to what had been written in the stars. But she hadn’t. Why would she resist? Why would anyone refuse a mate—the one chosen by the Moon Goddess herself? The thought made my chest ache. How could anyone not want the one they were made for? When we had hugged her, the Mate-Bond had struck me with an intensity that made my entire body hum. I had ached to mark her, to claim her as mine, and to show her how long I had waited, how much I had longed for her. Even though I appear calm and composed, inside I am a storm. I keep it restrained, but Jason wears his emotions on his sleeve—I envy him that freedom. When we were younger, when every woman seemed to orbit around us, the chase had been thrilling. Temporary, shallow, exciting—but Anna had never pursued us. Not then, not ever. Was it because she was destined to be Gamma? Or had she simply never cared? That mystery had always fascinated me. The endless cycle of fleeting attention had grown dull over the years. Now, I craved depth, substance—something that would make my soul feel alive. During the hug, I had felt her relax, briefly, as if part of her wanted to melt into the Mate-Bond, but the rest of her resisted. Tomorrow, I would find out why. And I hoped with every fiber of my being that it was something I could soothe, something I could ease. I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her—not after waiting for so long, not after finally finding her. Her scent still lingered in my mind, a mixture of wildflowers and fresh rain, intoxicating and alive. It made my heart pound, my wolf restless. Every inch of me wanted to protect her, claim her, reassure her that she was safe. That no one, ever, would hurt her while I lived. “I hope so,” I murmured finally to Jason, but my voice sounded thin even to my own ears. “How should we approach her tomorrow?” Jason asked, shifting nervously, glancing at his watch. “We need to adjust our plan, now that she knows we’re her mates.” “Best if it’s just the three of us,” I said. “No distractions, no interference. She deserves our full attention. She deserves to feel safe, to feel wanted without pressure, without spectacle.” “And then?” Jason’s voice was cautious, almost childlike in its excitement. “Then we talk,” I said, my pulse quickening at the thought. “We show her why she is meant to be our Luna. Why she is ours.” My chest tightened, imagining her accepting it, finally yielding to the bond, and the way her eyes would shine. The thought alone made me ache with desire—not just physical, but emotional, spiritual, everything. Jason grinned, like he could read my thoughts. “She’s going to be a challenge. Strong-willed, just like us.” “Exactly,” I said, forcing a small smile. “And that challenge? I’m ready for it. I’ll win her heart, every last piece of it.” We moved toward our car, and I felt a surge of protectiveness tighten around my chest. Tomorrow, we would storm her world. Tomorrow, everything would change. And if I had to, I would wait a lifetime to see her smile, to hear her laugh, to feel her trust. The Mate-Bond pulsed beneath my skin even now, whispering her name, urging me forward. I had waited long enough. Tomorrow, Anna would see that she was safe. Tomorrow, she would see that she was wanted. Tomorrow, she would understand that she was mine, and I would never let her go.
