Miles: Before I could stew on it longer, the bartender returned, placing a tray with my usual in front of me. “Here it is, sir.” I barely glanced at him before he scurried off again, not even waiting for a thank you. I grabbed a shot, tossed it back in one go, and winced as it burned its way down my throat. The bitterness lingered, but not as much as the sight of those two. I glanced back at them. I couldn’t make out what exactly they were discussing, but one thing was clear; they were up to no good. Just as I reached for another shot, something—or rather, someone—rushed past me in a blur.
