Miles narrowed his gaze when I stayed silent. “I mean, her face looks really familiar. I think I’ve seen her at school, but I’m not sure. What do you think? Or should we tell her to come back another time?”
Of course, she looked familiar—she attended the same school as us. I turned my gaze to Ethan, and I guess he mistook my silence for a refusal, because he straightened up and started heading toward the door.
“I’ll just tell her to visit some other time, then,”
“What? No, don’t!” I blurted, my voice louder than I intended. Ethan froze and turned back, eyebrows raised in surprise. I caught the flicker of astonishment in Miles’ widened eyes too.
“Please, let her in. She’s my best friend!” I added quickly.
