“Right on time, as always,” Luna Emily smiled at me, as she opened the door, looking totally made-up, in a beautiful demure blue dress that had classy vibes rolling off her in waves. Her red lips added to her allure, and her updo made her look sophisticated.
I never pulled off such a look, and I briefly wondered if it was because I lacked the material, the sheer beauty, or the time to learn more about make-up.
“If I am right on time, that actually means I am late,” I observed with a rueful smile on my face. “I am so sorry, Luna Emily… I ran into trouble, you see?”
“Want to talk about it?” She raised an eyebrow at me, while Susie ran to hug me.
“Nah,” I shook my head negatively, knowing it would be okay with time.
I bent down and picked up the little one with ease, making her giggle softly.
“You’re late,” Susie pouted.
“I am sorry,” I let out softly. “I’ll make it up to you.”
“Oh, really?” Her eyes shone in a way only kids could manage.
“Get your scrabble,” I winked at her. “Tonight, I am going to make you eat dust.”
“We’ll see about that,” she squealed, even as she ran into her room to get the word game.
“You spoil her, Eden,” Luna Emily let out, a soft smile stretching her lips, which I returned with one of my own, before she went on, “You sure you don’t want to talk about it?”
“Positive,” I nodded. “But I really appreciate the offer, and might even take you up on it one day.”
Her smile widened at once, and I saw in her what everybody else saw – a loving Luna capable of swaying even the Alpha, if she so wished, and yet righteous enough to remain fair.
“I would be happy to lend you an ear,” she told me after a beat.
Her phone soon went off, and she let out softly, “Well, I’m off.”
“Have fun, Luna Emily,” I waved her off, seeing her at the door, “Also, you look fabulous today.”
“You always say that,” she smiled.
“It is always true though,” I assured her.
“Oh, don’t make me blush,” she giggled, and then was on her way out of the Alpha Wing.
The wing had 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a big living room which was where I spent most of my time here with Susie.
I drank some water, and then made myself comfortable on the sofa, before Susie came running back with her scrabble.
** ** ** ** ** **
I had purposefully lost 3 games of scrabble, before I checked the time, and saw it was time for dinner.
Susan’s meal and my own were in the fridge as to be expected. It was pasta alfredo, one of my favorite dishes. It usually reminded me of mom, who would cook this each time I was down, as a means to comfort me.
I was just about to set the table while I heated the food in the microwave, when a deep mesmerizing voice I knew far too well sounded from behind me, “Well, well, well, if it isn’t the little wolf.”
“Who are you calling a little wolf?” Susie demanded in an undeniably angry manner, as I turned to face Hunter.
“Not you obvi,” he retorted, raising an eyebrow as he did so. “You know I usually call you pest.”
“And I call you bully.”
“That’s not very nice of you,” I let out, my hand resting on my hip. “Of both of you.”
“He started it,” Susie rolled her eyes in a way kids did that made things more hilarious at once.
I stifled the laugh as he told her, “You’re too young to start anything.”
“And you’re too old to finish anything,” she countered, sticking her tongue out.
I couldn’t help but laugh like a maniac at that point.
He looked at me through narrowed eyes – I wouldn’t call it a glare per se – and soon asked, “Should I be bringing the pest around often to hear this kind of laugh?”
“Don’t be a creep, and don’t you dare bully her,” Susie came to stand in front of me, her stance endearingly protective.
I wheezed, my laughter getting the best out of me.
Before he could say something else to rally her up, I placed my hand on her shoulder, “Your Alpha brother isn’t a bully, sweetheart.”
“He calls me pest though,” she pouted, her eyes slightly glassy.
“And yet he would fight an army for you, you know?” I patted her head affectionately.
She let out a noncommittal sound in the back of her throat, before turning to him again, “Is that true?”
“Listen to Eden. She knows best,” was all he offered in reply. Nevertheless, his words had the knack to make her smile shine brighter than ever.
The microwave beeped, and I went to get the food, burning my hands in the process, “Ouch! Fudge!”
“Careful, little wolf,” he cooed as he held my hand under the water. “Rushing you to the clinic isn’t my idea of a fun night.”
His big hand, rough and calloused, sent a shiver running down my spine in pure physical awareness... I had to gulp down noisily before speaking again.
“What’s a fun night like for you anyway?” I raised an eyebrow, and wondered where this boldness even came from.
He chuckled, the sound deep, compelling, and oh so arousing at the same time.
I had to think of many unpleasant things, in order to make sure my arousal wouldn’t be so potent that he could smell it.
“Well, wouldn’t you like to know, little wolf?” The teasing in his tone and the passion in his eyes told me I was stepping into dangerous territory.
“I am asking, aren’t I?” I offered him an awkward smile at that point.
“Maybe one day,” he winked.
“I’m hungry,” Susie let out, snapping me back to reality.
The man was dangerous, charming to a fault, despite his ever-present scowl, and I didn’t think things could get more awkward… and then he said, “I am hungry too.”
Did that mean he intended to stay with us as we ate?
He must be tripping me! I didn’t think I could handle that much testosterone, that much charm…
“What’s for dinner?” He pressed on, making me rush to the fridge, if only to hide my burning face from him.
Heavens have mercy, I hoped he wouldn’t like the options, and go out to eat instead!
