I sighed watching Lilly's jaw touching the floor.
"Lilly," I spoke her name.
"Excuse me if am in shock. How do you drop a bomb like that and expect me to act rational?"
"Come on Lilly. Stop with the exaggeration," I rolled my eyes as I went back to straightening my blond hair.
"Am not exaggerating. You just said you were going to seduce Devon tonight," Her voice dropped to a whisper as if what she said was forbidden.
"It's just a one night thing so calm down and help me choose the perfect dress,"
"I can't believe am letting you do something you'll probably regret the rest of your life," She mumbled walking over to my wardrobe.
Two hours later,
"Stop sweating. You are ruining the makeup that I took a full hour putting on you," Lilly warned as we prepared to entrance the company's ballroom.
"I don't know Lily. I just don't feel like it anymore," I whispered.
"You have been pinning for Devon's attention for so long and you never did anything about it. Now that you are already dressed up to get him to notice you, then you suddenly chicken out? We are going to get in there and get him pinning for you instead," I half smiled at Lily as we walked in the ballroom.
We walked over to a group of colleagues by the mini bar.
"Jeez girls you look smoking hot today," Shawn, one of the chirpiest people you'll ever meet, stated as his eyes landed on us.
They were about two other colleagues and soon enough they were back to chatting. Honestly I was only half listening as I scanned the room for Devon. As far as I could tell he wasn't in yet and every second that passed by was making me more anxious.
Feeling more aggravated by the minute I took some tequila shots. A few guys approached me for a dance but I waved them off with the excuse of a bad stomach.
"Whoa! Slow down there baby girl. The party just got started. You don't want to get wasted this early," Shawn warned and well I couldn't ignore it.
"By the way did you guys here this?" Diana, the gossip- spreader in the company suddenly whispered excitedly.
"Andrew is coming back to town," she spilled the beans excitedly, the smile never leaving his face.
"Who is Andrew?" I questioned facing Diana with a confused expression.
"Devon's younger brother,"
I almost face palmed myself after remembering that Steve, Devon's driver, had told me that earlier in the day.
"So when is he coming back?" I asked trying to sound excited when all I could think of was Devon.
"f**k, Devon looks hot," Racheal, the last one in the group muttered.
My eyes quickly darted to the entrance where Devon was all dressed up in an immaculate white suit. He sashayed into the ballroom in calculated strides, chatting up with a few colleagues a wide smile on his face. I had to admit he had one of the best smiles I have ever laid my eyes on.
"There is your fish. I hope you got the hook ready," Lily whispered cheekily near my ears making my cheeks go red.
"Yeah, just don't forget to play your part," I reminded her.
"Of course," An emotion that I couldn't clearly depict showed in her eyes but it was gone quicker that lightning.
Devon was talking to some of the company officials when I spotted him. Purposely swaying my hips I walked slowly past them , feeling their stares burning deep in my back.
"Damn, is it just me or your PA is looking so f*****g hot tonight?" I smiled when I heard one of them state.
I heard several murmurs of agreement but there was only one voice I was waiting to hear.
"I think I just found myself a date tonight," I heard one of them whisper.
"Sorry buddy. She is with me tonight," what Devon said made my breath hitch.
Well, things had moved way more smoothly than I had anticipated. From the corner of my eye I sensed Devon's movement towards me. Drowning my glass I placed it on the tray of a passing waiter before letting a confident smile tag my bottom lip. I walked out of the ballroom into the balcony overlooking the magnificent city of Los Angeles.
He was definitely going to come after me.
After a few minutes I couldn't ignore the rising panic setting in my heart. I tapped my well manicured fingernails against the edge of the railing to calm my nerves. I could feel hurt feeling cascading down my spinal cord.
Well, at least you got him to notice you.
Sighing in frustration I swallowed the bitter gall before stepping back into the ballroom. Picking up a glass of champagne from one of the waiters, I drowned it. I was just about to place it on the tray when my eyes fell on something or rather someone. I felt the constriction on my throat at the sight of Lilly dancing with Devon on the dancefloor. She was throwing back her head in laughter at something Devon was saying.
