Lilah Hart wasn’t really paying attention. She glanced down briefly, still holding her phone while walking ahead.
Gabriel Wallace stayed quiet.
She looked at her phone again while walking. “Did we lose signal or something?”
Gabriel replied, “No.”
“Then why aren’t you saying anything?”
He gave a low hum. “Are Mom and Dad coming over today?”
“No idea. Mom mentioned they might come these two days, but didn’t say exactly when. Depends on their schedule.”
“You can’t just call and ask?”
Lilah paused mid-step. “Why don’t *you* call them?”
There was a beat of silence on Gabriel’s end. “I’ll call them in a bit.”
Lilah had already made her way down the steps, walking briskly now. Her voice sounded lighter too. “Have you eaten yet?”
