CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Bekah awoke to the sound of beeps. Trying to roll over, she realized there was something stuck to her arm. It took her another moment to figure out that the something was an IV, and that the beeps were from a nearby monitor.
She was in the hospital. Why was she in the hospital? Then everything came back, in one intense wave of memories. She felt the chill of the water, the fear that had gripped her, the feeling of a hand on her arm—
How had she gotten here? She couldn’t remember. The last thing she remembered was seeing a boat on the horizon and frantically waving at it. She remembered tearing a piece off of her red shirt, then a hand on her arm. That was all.
She must’ve fallen asleep again, because when she woke up, Elliot was sitting next to her bed.
