A cold sweat ran down Anthony’s back. He could feel the change in Naledi from where he stood. She was pulling away from him. Anthony took a step towards her, but she shook her head, cringing away from him, her hands raised up imploring him to keep his distance. A phone in the bedroom started to ring. They all ignored it, that it became background noise to what was happening in the house. Anthony stood still trying to figure out what he could say to bring them back to what they started last night. But she looked at him like he was a stranger, and not the man who had held her in his arms. Why? He wanted to ask her. Didn’t last night or this morning mean anything to you?
