With a heavy heart and trembling hands, I began to gather my belongings. Each item I packed carried with it a flood of memories, each more painful than the last.
My fingers brushed against the familiar contours of my engagement ring, once a symbol of our love and commitment, now nothing more than a cruel mockery of the dreams we had once shared.
With a heavy sigh, I slipped the ring from my finger and placed it delicately on the bedside table. The ring no longer belonged to me. Perhaps Matteo would give it to his future wife. Or maybe, he would throw it away. It was a token of a love that had withered and died.
