PENELOPE ~ ~ The morning sun peeked through the window, casting a warm glow on the room. The birds outside chirped in unison, their sweet melodies filling the air. As I slowly regained consciousness, the rumble of several cars being warmed up in the mansion's driveway seeped through the closed windows. A splitting headache throbbed in my temples as I groaned, trying to sit up. My eyes fluttered open, and I realized I had fallen asleep on the ground. I curled into a fetal position, trying to shield my throbbing head from the light.
