CHAPTER EIGHT Luke had never considered himself the jealous type. He generally preferred to live and let live. If he wanted something another person had, he figured he’d just do the hard work to earn it. Yet as he watched his friend Jack Benson kiss his fiancée, their faces bright with happiness, Luke’s gut twisted. He tossed back the last of his beer. He’d agreed to come to Jack and Gwen’s place weeks prior for dinner. Luke almost wished he’d canceled tonight, but he pushed the thought aside. Plastering a smile on his face, he entered the kitchen where the two lovebirds were trying to finish making dinner. They kept touching each other and laughing. Jack, a grumpy fisherman-turned-general-contractor not known for laughing at much of anything, seemed to smile and laugh all the time now
