(Maya’s POV)
The moment Axel walked away from the table, I felt my chest tighten. I tried to keep my face neutral, smiling at Stella as she asked Jamie about his favorite games, but inside I was unraveling. Axel had left too suddenly. Something in his expression told me that he had noticed Jamie.
He knew something. Maybe not the truth, but enough to make him wonder.
I looked over my shoulder, watching him disappear into the crowd outside the café. Every step he took away from us made my stomach twist. I should have been relieved that he was gone, but instead, I was terrified.
What if he figured it out?
