The Breaking Point
(Maya’s POV)
I hadn’t planned to walk past David’s office. In fact, I had been avoiding that entire hallway since the day I discovered his affair.
But today, the elevator was broken, and I had no choice but to take the long route to radiology. My footsteps slowed as I neared his door. It was slightly ajar, and the murmur of his voice drew me in.
“I’ve got no room to breathe, Ed. If they file one more complaint, just one more…I’m screwed.”
I froze.
His voice was low, tight with panic. I hovered outside, half-hidden by a corner, heart pounding in my chest.
“Another malpractice suit?” a deeper voice replied. “That makes three this year, David.”
David let out a harsh laugh. “Four, actually. One was dropped on a technicality.”
