Josephine stood up with a trembling body and a deathly pale face. Her palms felt spicy, hot, and throbbing. She was shocked, because her slap was not at all like slapping a human. It was as if she had slapped a stone wall, for Nicholas' cheeks felt hard and stiff. Instead of the force of Josephine's slap making Nicholas move, she staggered himself. Nicholas's eyebrows rose.
