CLAIRE I was out of bed and dressed before Julian even woke up, by the time he emerged from his bedroom, I was already pacing the living room with my second cup of coffee, too wired to sit still. "You're up early," he observed, walking toward the kitchen. "Nina texted," I said, holding up my phone. "The samples are ready. We can pick them up anytime after ten." Julian glanced at the clock on the wall. It was barely eight AM. "So we have two hours," he said, pouring himself coffee. "Two hours," I repeated, resuming my pacing.
