Anna was jarred awake by a seizing pain. It started low in her back, working its way up into a twisting, wrenching shock, and she hissed under her breath as she curled in on herself, willing the surge of discomfort down. It did ebb slightly although not entirely, but her relief was so intense it felt almost pleasurable not to be in that much pain. This didn't feel anything like the strange cramps she had had leading up to this point. It came again, a rush, sweeping through her as though her muscles were trying to shape themselves into pretzels in her stomach and back. A gasp and whine came from her throat, muted against the pillow, and Anna heard Arthur stir. This time the cramp twisted itself and Anna jolted, which sent another shock through her coupled with a soft moan of agony. H
