Elle’s POV
I couldn’t speak. I just nodded, forcing my lips to stay curved in a polite smile. I could barely breathe.
Ethan reached for my hand and took it gently, holding it as if he could transfer some of his strength to me. I held on tightly.
We turned to follow the omega, but something made me glance back.
I shouldn’t have. But I did.
And when I did, I caught John staring at me.
His eyes were narrowed slightly, focused on my face like he was trying to remember something. My heart skipped a beat, and panic rushed through me.
Did he recognize me?
Did something about me seem familiar?
I quickly turned my head forward and looked away, pretending I hadn’t noticed. My heart pounded like a drum in my chest, and I felt a drop of sweat roll down the side of my face.
I prayed silently.
