I couldn’t see the rest of the pack by the time Ares was ready to catch up.  I think he had done that deliberately. I couldn’t walk as fast as I usually could and I couldn’t run at all; we weren’t going to be catching up until they decided to settle down to eat or to rest.  He slipped his hand into mine and squeezed it gently as we walked together.  He was thinking about my old life. I was sure about that, but I didn’t let him know that.  It was bothering him to think about the fact I might have been physically damaged by what I went through. He hated the idea that Luc might have done something to me that I would never be able to recover from.  “My ankle feels much better today.
