I waited alone in the tent for most of the night, and I was thankful to Aleks for the fact he had given me some books back at the human town because I would have had nothing to do if it wasn’t for that.
Ares had been surprised by the fact I was able to read, and I had been offended by that at the time, but I couldn’t blame him for assuming I had never encountered books before.
It was probably one of the only qualities Luc had as Alpha - he saw the value in being able to read and write, and he liked to keep track of where our pack had been and the people we had encountered in large ledgers which he treated as a valuable treasure if anyone else tried to read them. Ares might even begrudgingly admit that was a good idea if he didn’t already keep similar records himself.
