I regretted telling Ares I was scared. It had been a throwaway comment that revealed far more than I had intended, and I should have known that Ares would pick up on that. He was waiting patiently and his eyes were piercing into mine unblinkingly. I had an uncomfortable sense of how he was feeling - he was concerned. At least I had managed to take his mind off his parents. He was practically screaming internally, and I didn’t hear the words but I knew what it was he wanted to know.
