At fifteen seconds to “go” several things happened simultaneously.
Sam shifted into position to kick in the back door of Franco’s tenth floor apartment.
Kate could see Devlin out on the fire escape flick loose Vince Tarello’s switchblade, the only weapon he’d accept, and her cell phone rang causing Sam to flinch in surprise.
She grabbed her phone.

Even as she accepted the call he was screaming at her.
