Chapter 1: Wanted
Lana’s pov
I looked around the room and saw the man getting ready.
Blue eyes and black hair, it’s hard to have these features and be ugly.
It was as if he were destined to look like some Greek god.
“Will you stop staring at me now?” he asked me, and I looked away.
“Get ready, we should have breakfast and we need to talk,” he said, and I nodded.
I got ready, and I will go straight to work after this.
It’s Friday, it's unlike him to call me in the middle of the week, but I can’t complain.
The s*x is great, I walked to the kitchen and found breakfast already made.
I looked around the room and I smiled at this.
This condo, I felt weird the first time he brought me here, but now it feels like home.
I sat down, and he put a slice of toasted bread with butter on it on my plate.
I took a bite, and I was about to ask him what he wanted to talk about when the news caught my eye.
I looked at the TV and right there was Lucien, and next to him a picture of Celeste.
I looked at it and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the headlines.
They were talking about a wedding that was happening this weekend, and the person getting married was Lucien Langford and Celeste Whitmore.
They were calling it the reunion of the century.
My eyes landed on the man next to me, and he sighed at this.
“I was hoping that you would hear it from me,” he said, and I didn’t say anything but just froze.
“I am marrying Celeste this Sunday, which means whatever this is ends today,” he said coldly.
Mrs Jane, who was busy making us food, stopped in her tracks, and her eyes landed on me.
She has been making food for us for the past 5 years.
She knows what I like to eat and the things I hate.
I dropped the bread that I was holding and just looked at the food in front of me.
The toast in my mouth suddenly tasted like sand in my mouth and I felt like vomiting.
“Don’t make things difficult. I never lied to you or told you that I loved you. I was very clear with my intentions from the very beginning. I don’t want you anymore,” he said, and I just sat there.
He is telling the truth; he never lied and sold me a fantasy.
He told me from the very beginning what his intentions were.
Flashback from 5 years ago.
I ran as fast as I could to class because I was already late.
That bed was so comfortable, I have never slept in anything that comfortable before.
The moment I opened the door, all eyes turned to me.
“You are not in my class,” the old man with a cane and glasses said.
I looked down and then looked up again.
“Hello, Sir, my name is Lana Jones. I apologize for being late, this will never happen again,” I said, and he looked at me.
“Why were you late?” he asked me.
“I overslept, sir,” I answered, and watched how he smiled as he looked at me.
“You aren’t going to lie?” he asked me, and I shook my head.
“Lies pollute the soul,” I answered, and watched how he smiled at this.
“Have a seat, Lana Jones,” he said, and I nodded as I took a seat.
All eyes were on me, and I heard as people started murmuring.
The professor continued with his lecture, and his eyes suddenly turned to me.
“Lana Jones, I read your paper on the impacts AI could have on businesses,” he said.
“It was thought-provoking,” he added, and I smiled.
“Thank you, sir,” I responded, and he looked at me.
“I only select 5 students, and I always do it in the first semester. But would you like to join my other 5 students and intern under me?” he suddenly asked me.
My eyes widened at this. Is he really asking me to do that?
“Yes, sir, it would be an honour,” I answered.
Professor Sterling is considered a genius, and I heard that he was way ahead of his time.
All the students who intern under him become great people in life.
Not that I want to be great, but I honestly wouldn’t mind learning a few things from him.
After class, I was packing up when suddenly a group of girls blocked my way.
Gosh, here we go, do bullies have to be everywhere?
“Amazing, your first day and you already have Professor Sterling wrapped around your dirty, poor fingers,” the girl with blond hair said.
I looked at her, confused. What the hell is she talking about?
“You know, a friend of mine wanted a spot in that group. But she wasn’t allowed, and now he suddenly does some scholarship girl a favour like that,” another one with pink hair.
“Well, thank you, I was also surprised,” I said and turned to leave, but someone held my hand.
“For some reason, I just don’t like you,” a red-haired haired said, and I looked at her.
She is beautiful, with green eyes and freckles.
Not only that, but you could tell that she was extremely rich.
Not a hair out of place, and her skin was perfectly tanned and flawless as well.
Her entire appearance screamed money.
“Well, it’s okay. Not everyone is meant to like me,” I said, and she scoffed at this.
“And look at this, Celeste, she also has a big mouth,” the blond girl said, and I looked at the red hair.
“Hello, I am Celeste Whitmore,” the girl with red hair said.
Whitmore, everyone here is rich and comes from big families, so I am not surprised.
I was about to say something when my phone rang and I picked it up.
“Excuse me,” I said and walked away to answer the phone.
After studying, I quickly took my books and then ran to Professor Sterling’s office.
I walked in, and all eyes turned to me.
I was in the room with 5 of the richest kids in our country.
Their families basically run the world.
“Hello,” I said, and then took a seat.
“I still can’t believe it, he made an exception for her but couldn’t do it for our friend,” this other blond guy said.
The four of them were looking at me with disgust, so I just looked down.
“I still can’t believe it, even though I have friends who wanted to join in,” Celeste also added.
“Hey girl, talk, what are you?” this other guy with brown hair asked me. I looked at him, confused.
What does he mean by what am I?
“Human?” I answered hesitantly. I watched how he rolled his eyes at this.
“Are you sleeping with the professor? Is that why he made an exception for you?” the blond girl from earlier asked.
“You aren’t denying it, you are f*****g the professor,” Celeste said, and I sighed.
“Would it change your opinion of me?” I asked them and watched how they looked at me, confused.
“You have already made up your mind. You are not interested in knowing me. You are probably the kind of person who would f**k a professor to intern under him. That is why you think that everyone else is capable of doing that,” I said, and then sighed.
“Or maybe pay your way through it, your history and life influences your perception,” I added.
“You b***h,” Celeste said and got up.
“Sit down,” the guy who was quiet the whole time said.
I watched how he turned around to look at Celeste and how she sat down without an objection.
“All this bickering is giving me a headache,” he said, and then turned to look at me.
For a second, I couldn’t breathe at all.
The aura coming off this guy, his black hair was perfectly in place, and his blue eyes seemed to pierce through my soul.
Who is this guy?
He didn’t say anything after that, and the professor came to the office.
When we were done and I was making copies the guy from earlier walked towards me. Lucien Langford is his name.
“Thank you, you stopped them from insulting me,” I said, and he just shrugged.
“I did it for my own selfish needs,” he said, and I looked at him confused.
“Your own selfish needs?” I asked him and he nodded.
“I helped you because I want you,” he said, taking the copies from my hand. I stood there frozen and didn’t know what to say.
End of flashback
“Thank you,” I managed to blurt out, and he seemed confused as he looked at me.
“Thank you for wanting me,” I said, and picked up my car keys.
“You were the first person to ever make me feel wanted. So, thank you for that,” I added and turned to leave.
“That’s it? That is all you have to say?” he asked me, and I looked at him confused.
Is there anything left to say?
