Reaching for the door knob, he peered into the keyhole and wiped off his shirt some invisible dirt with the back of his palm.
And casting one more cursory look at me, I smiled nervously while he turned towards the door and unbolted it.
'Who are you and how may I help you?' Dad asked tentatively immediately he opened the door.
'Greetings sir, I'm from UpFont Kitchen and I'm here to deliver a package' A voice, I suppose was that of the delivery man replied humbly.
'A package?...' Dad asked with a puzzled look.
'Yes sir. I was told to deliver a box of pizza and a champagne at this address by someone an hour ago.' He said.
I wasn't quite surprised when he said someone. Probably Dad's PA did just as I had told him earlier on.
'Ok' Dad replied absentmindedly.
'Please sign here' The delivery man said.
'Sure.'
'Thank you' he added and handed the package to Dad.
After bolting the door, Dad began to plod towards the dinning area with the package in his right hand.
'Did you by any chance ordered this?' Dad asked, raising the package up for me to see as he got closer.
'Uhm… actually yes I did' I replied, stuttering as I stared sideways avoiding his gaze.
'Did you do that with my phone?' Dad asked keeping a straight face
'Yes I asked Mr. Tony to…'
I replied soberly.
'Its ok. Just make sure next time you inform me before doing any of these. I hope you understand?'
'Yes Dad…. Am sorry I didn't mean to. I just felt like I should help you order something for dinner so as to save you the stress of making dinner especially when it's not your thing.'
I explained softly, looking at nothing in particular.
'Its ok. I'm not angry dear. You don't have to do all of that.'
'And for the cooking, I'll do something real quick about it sooner than you'd expect' Dad, added
Unwrapping the package, he brought out the box of pizza and the bottle of champagne.
'Finally we can at least have something better for dinner.' Dad, half yelled.
'Something better like?' I, inquired
'Something better like this…' Dad cooed, pointing at the box of pizza on the table
'Oh' I said
'Yeah… All thanks to you for that.' Dad said, grinning as he threw a piece of the pizza into his mouth and began to munch it in delight.
'Dad! It's just not fair.' I said casting him a wicked grin.
'What's not fair, Miss?' Dad asked, smiling.
'Eating those without my permission isn't fair of course' I replied, pointing at the box of pizza on the table.
'Aww come close sweetheart'
Dad said as he motioned at me to draw close and when I did he instructed me to open my mouth and then shoved a giant chunk of pizza into my mouth and began to laugh as I started choking and gasping for air.
'You're evil and wicked!' I managed to say after catching my breathe
'You're then the devil's daughter I suppose' Dad threw back sarcastically as he shoved another piece of pizza into his mouth.
'Not at all. Never will I'
I replied laughing heartedily and began to throw pieces of pizza at Dad.
'Hey stop stop it you're hurting me' Dad exclaimed using his hands as a shield to protect his face.
'No I won't'
'I'm going already so stay back and as for the wine, you're way too underage.
Consider it all mine so thank you for the surprise anyway' Dad, bellowed wittingly.
'I'm not underage Dad' I countered pouting my lips.
'Hey baby girl. Listen here you don't have to do all of that because you won't get to taste this thing right here' Dad said fondling the champagne with his right hand.
'Then I'll just sit here and watch you drink' I muttered in resignation.
'Whichever way…' Dad replied and stood up giggling.
Heading for the sitting room, he walked briskly taking giant strides as he found his way to the couch adjacent to the TV on the wall and lowered himself into it.
While I sat at the dinning table munching my pizza in delight or so I appear to.
'This pizza taste really great.' I muttered to myself.
Probably better than all the others I've tasted recently
I thought to myself as I shove another piece into my mouth.
Its really been like for ages I last tasted pizza maybe a month or so.
I remember Dad actually took Mum and I out for dinner at the Makafas, a 5 star hotel on the northeastern part of the city.
I bit harder at the piece of pizza in my mouth as I reminisced all that happened that day at the Makafas in silence.
A surge of pain waved through me leaving my eyes moistened with tears ready to let loose anytime soon as thoughts of mum flashed through my mind.
I just really wish and pray she's fine wherever she may be right now. And I hope to meet her again someday at least to ask her why she left suddenly without giving me a reason.
"There should be a reason right?" I asked rhetorically.
"Amanda come over" Dad voice waffed into my ears, startling me a bit.
'ok Dad..I will be there in a minute'
I replied, casually.
Taking a piece of pizza, I slowly got up and made for the sitting room.
'Here my lord' I said to gain his attention since the cricket game showing on the TV has captivated him.
"Just sit here. Let's watch this game together tonight." He said absentmindedly with his gaze still glued to the game.
"I don't understand the game so tell me why I should waste my time to join you watch it?" I asked peering at the Tv screen in disgust.
"Just sit down and watch. It's a very interesting game that's all I can say right now" dad replied.
I looked on quietly for some seconds then sat down.
Few minutes into watching the game I was already feeling sleepy and tired as I kept rubbing my eyes to wade sleep away.
"Oh yes!" Dad exclaimed pointing at the Tv screen while I looked on in perplexity. Probably his team must have scored or something.
'Such a stupid game' I remarked underneath my breath.
"Dad" I called softly
'yes' he replied
"When is the game going to be over?"
"In the next 50 minutes or so I suppose" he replied absentmindedly.
"What?!!" I exclaimed in frustration
"That's a whole lot of time and I'm exhausted already" I added.
"Well if you are tired you can go to bed already dear." Dad replied.
I stared at the Tv screen and sighed.
Confused whether to stay or not since I was afraid of the dark bade him goodnight and lazily got up for the stairs after much hesitation.
Getting to my room I quickly climbed up my bed and lay still awaiting nature's call.
