Still wincing in pain on the floor, I started fumbling with my hands in search of what did cause me to trip and fall but couldn't lay my hands on anything.
Tired from the fruitless search, I helped my self up and wiped off the dust on my face then tried to walk but stopped when I felt a sharp pain throbbing on my right leg.
I guess I must have sustained a cut or bruise on the leg when I fell down.
Bending down, I began to massage the foot after examining it with my hands for some minutes then stopped after feeling a bit relieved from the pain.
And without much ado, I limped out of the hall.
I wonder what Dad would say when he discovers that I can't walk properly. I guess he do just scold me for being too adventurous and refusing to just wait for him in Perrie's care. Well if he asks me I will have no choice but to tell him why I left the room in the first place.
I'm not to be blame anyway if only Perrie wouldn't have been hostile to me in the first place I wouldn't have let the room before going on to sustain this injury.
I was still talking in my head when a voice yelled,
"Watch out"
Then I stopped abruptly on my track only to look up and see a petite nurse with a blonde hair standing right in my front and looking at me with a tray in her hands
Luckily for me, I heard her on time if not we do have crashed badly into each other and end up spilling out all the contents of the tray on the floor.
"I'm so sorry ma. I guess I wasn't looking at where I was going" I said apologetically
"Its okay. Just be careful next time so you don't bump into someone else" She replied with a smile
" Ok ma. Thank you" I said nodding my head
" You are welcome" she said and made way for me to pass and watched me take a few steps before calling me back
" What happened to your leg?" She asked the moment I I bent down and began to massage the foot for some minutes after examining it with my handstopped abruptly on my track
"Nothing ma. It's perfectly fine" I said with a nervous smile, turning to face her
"Then why are you limping?" She asked with a tonne of concern in her voice
"Did I limp? I stuttered
" Yeah you did while you were walking away" She said
"Really. Wow then I guess that's the way I walk" I replied looking sideways to avoid her eye contact
" Are you sure about that?" She asked peering intently at me as she walked towards my direction
" Yes I am" I replied letting out a smile
" Then how about this?" She asked, pointing at some pointing at some dust particles on my dress when she got closer
" Umm... this... I" I made to speak but paused when she interrupted with another question
" Now tell me the truth. I'm not going to harm you. Did you fall down or something?" She asked looking me straight in the eye
"Yes I did" I replied admittedly, looking at the floor
"Now why did you lie to me at first when I asked you about it?" She asked but I couldn't get the right word to reply so I shook my head with my gaze still glued to the floor
"Now tell me how did it happened and where?" She asked further but in a soft tone but I still didn't reply but hung my head low in shame
"Well it's ok if you don't want to tell me about it." She said and squatted after placing her tray on the floor then took out my right foot and raising it slightly she examined it then kept it back on the floor
"Now show me which of the foots did hurt when you tried walking away" She said still squatting while I raised my right foot up and held on to her shoulders for balance and support
"You will be fine let me just get some ointment and massage your foot to hasten the healing process" She said while I nodded then drew the tray close to herself for easy access and then brought out a small bottle of ointment from it.
Pouring some quantity of the ointment into her palms, she began to work on the right foot while I winced in pain.
"Sorry dear you will be fine. Just be patient" She said solemnly then continued working on the foot.
After she was done she stood up and heaved a sigh then said
"Yeah we are done finally"
"Thank you so much ma" I said appreciatively feeling alot relieved
and made to walk away
"Hey, Not so fast
please come back dear." She said while I came to a halted
" You haven't even told me your name and you are already going huh" She added smiling
" I'm sorry ma. My name is Amanda Edwards ma" I replied stealthily
" Wow such a nice name you have got." She complimented
"Thank you ma" I replied
" Well my name is Roselle but of course you can't call me that so Miss Roselle is ok by me" She said solemnly, smiling broadly
"Alright ma" I said
"And what brings you to the hospital?" She asked
" Well our Aunt had a minor issue so I came to pay her a visit" I explained
" Oh I see. Alright then see you some other time" She said and I walked away after helping her to pick up her tray from the floor.
As I approached Perrie's room i began to hear voices so I slowed down a bit to get grasp what was going on.
"Don't dare me Perrie you better get rid of that thing you call a baby in your belly!" A voice I presumed to be Dad's said
" I will do no such thing Edwards. I'm going to keep this baby and nothing is going to make me change my mind about it" Another voice I was sure belonged to Perrie thundered
"Don't be a fool. Can't you be sensible for once? If you can't consider my reasons. Don't you have some sense of pity left in you? What becomes of my daughter if I have you moved into my house? How will she feel?" Dad retorted
" I don't give a damn she can go to hell for all I care. I have given you my conditions and you must keep all of it or I'll have you arrested. Not just that I'll make sure I stop at nothing to see you exposed and destroyed you fool" Perrie replied
"Just keep quiet. Why am I even wasting my time having this conversation with you when you are so blinded by greed and evil in your heart you daughter of Jezebel?" Dad said and stomped his feet.
"Well you can call me whatever you feel like calling me. I don't care but you must keep my condition. Just get that into your damn skull" Perrie retorted while I walked in on them and pretended as though I never heard a thing they said earlier on
"Oh my goodness. Where have you been?" Dad asked as I tried to walk properly so he doesn't notice the pain in my right foot while Perrie looked away
"I went for a walk outside" I replied
"Really? Looking like this?" Dad asked staring at me
"What is wrong with the way I'm looking?" I said perplexed
"Can't you see the dirt on your dress?" Dad asked giving me a cursory look
" Edwards I'm hungry" Perrie interrupted looking towards our direction
"You are hungry so I should do what? Hang myself huh?" Dad yelled
"Dad take it easy with her please" I said pouting my lips
"I need food. Get me something to eat I'm starving" Perrie retorted
"Oh wow. What do you take me for? a puppet or house help you can order about? common be reasonable please" Dad said
"Just get me food. I don't have strength for all your trouble now " Perrie said calmly and took her gaze back to the wall
"Well if you want food, go get it yourself or better still order some" Dad said and stood up
"Dad where are you going to?" I asked confused
"Nowhere darling. I'm just tired from sitting" He said subtly
"Oh sorry" I replied
" Thank you my princess" Dad said and glared at Perrie who has cringed herself in the corner of her bed
"Dad" I called softly and pouted my lips
"Yes dear. What is it?" Dad asked giving a cursory look
"Please get her something to eat" I said pleadingly
"What food and for who?" He asked looking at me strangely.
" Food for Aunt Perrie. I thought she told you that she was hungry" I said
" Oh you're talking about that lady over there?" Dad said casually pointing at Perrie
" Yes I'm referring to Aunt Perrie" I cooed
"Don't pay attention to her. She is just seeking attention. She is a big distraction" Dad said
" But she is hungry Dad" I replied
" Who told you that she is hungry?" Dad asked casting me a cold glare
" She said it just now and I know you heard her too"I replied softly
" Oh well I guess my ears where on holidays or a break then because I didn't hear her say a thing like that" Dad said sarcastically
" Dad!" I called
"Yes what is it?" Dad replied
"I'm serious please stop kidding with me!" I muttered
"Of course I'm also serious here. I swear I didn't hear her talk" Dad said defensively
" Well you know now so let's go get her the meal" I replied and got up then took my hand into his palm and began to draw him towards the door while he kept blabbing on
"Jeez you are such a thorn in my flesh" Dad said breathlessly as we got to the doorway
" I am a thorn in your flesh because that was what I was sent into your life to be" I cooed then chuckle
" Well that's not totally true" Dad countered
"Ok tell me what is left" I said tugging at his sweatpant
" Hey wait. I'll tell you don't worry" Dad said
"No tell me now" I replied
" Hey, where are you taking me to?" Dad asked and stopped abruptly
"Shush... just keep quiet Dad and follow my lead" I commanded
" Well I'm not going anywhere until you tell me where exactly we are going to" Dad said adamantly
" Really? you better move now or else I'll force you to" I said while Dad laughed
" It isn't funny Dad. So stop laughing already" I replied giving him a light punch on his arm
"Ouch.. do you want to destroy my arm?" Dad asked wincing in pain
"That serves you right. Why did you have to laugh at me?" I asked with glaring at me
"Oh so a punch is now all I get for laughing at what I find funny? " Dad asked, rubbing his arm fondly
"Yes. And I will give you a knock out punch if you do that again" I said flexing my muscle
"Woah" Dad exclaimed
"Yes. So you better don't laugh I'm not smiling. Now let's get going" I replied
"Hi hi captain." Dad replied and we continued walking.
We got to the elevator so I turned to the Dad and said
"Now we are going to head straight to the cafeteria to get some food for her" I said while Dad nodded like a person taking orders from his superior
"Is that clear or you need me to repeat myself again?" I asked as we got to the elevator and headed for the grand floor
"Yes... no my lady" Dad stuttered
"Huh. I don't get you. What do you mean?" I asked
"I mean I understand you clearly" I Dad said with a smirk
"That's better" I replied
"Yeah" Dad said and looked away
We got to the grand floor and exited the hospital building and heading straight to the car, Dad briskly walked away leaving me behind.
I wonder what could be wrong with him. Just few minutes ago he was in a good mood then suddenly his countenance changed.
I was still standing at the spot he left me when he beckoned on me to come over.
"Amanda come here" Dad said leaning against the car
"Ok Dad" I replied then jogged up to his side
"I want us to go home" Dad said
"Huh why? are we not going to the cafeteria again?" I asked
"Yeah. I want us to get her some homemade food" Dad said
" Ok then. Let's go" I replied and got into the backseat then Dad also got in and we hit off the road after he started the car engine.
I'm not sure I do be coming back here again. I am so exhausted from this endless trip today.
"Seems like you are tired already my princess" Dad asked casting a quick glance at me
"Umm... yes Dad!" I muttered underneath my breath
"I'm not sure you are going to follow me back to the hospital again or you will?" Dad asked while I kept quiet
"I will try. I can't decide yet Dad" I replied
" Ok. But on a serious note I'm doing all of these because of you" Dad said and focused his gaze on the road
"Really? I don't think I understand you?" I asked
"I mean I'm actually going to give that witch food because you want me to. Otherwise I wouldn't even give her a morsel if I had one." Dad said and instantly pulled up after skidding off the road.
" What happened Dad?" I asked perplexed
" Huh I don't know. I'll have to go down and check but I think we have a flat tyre" Dad said and exhaled deeply before stepping out of the car.
I really hope nothing happens to the car because it's already late and we may get stuck in traffic if we do not hurry up and go home now.
After walking round the car in search of what could be wrong with the car, Dad walked back to front and opened it bonnet while I sat back quietly.
"Have you found the fault?" I asked straining my neck to get a view of the bonnet from the backseat.
" Not really dear. Hang on I'm still searching" Dad said
" Ok Dad" I replied
"Yeah. Get me my phone from the owners seat" Dad said softly
" Ok sir." I replied then got down from the backseat then headed to get him the phone.
