Chapter 15: The real Truth

1759 Words
Kai ***Flashback*** I used to belong to a real pack, with my father as an alpha and my mother a Luna. As their only son I was being groomed to be the next alpha of the pack so I was kind of some sort of a prince, at ten I spend my time learning the pack traditions and training as I waited for the five to six hours of excruciating pain before my first morph into a complete werewolf on the full moon. Something else I was bring prepared for or rather warned about was our enemies. The pale skinned vampires, creatures of the night. Although our bite was lethal to them, it was arguably a killer to them but they were stronger and had enhanced senses than ours. To stay on top of the food chain they had to get rid of us at all costs. Our second enemy was the witches and wizards, deceptive beings with ability to control others and nature using their minds while at the same time claiming to maintain balance. Although most of the time we were allies against the vampires our common enemies, but the source of our enmity-The werewolf curse still made us enemies and their magic irritated us. "Kai wake up!" My mother shook me from sleep that fateful night. "Quick! Take him away through the tunnel we are under attack “I heard my dad speak from the door. That night. Our pack was attacked by two of our biggest Enemies. The vampires led by their notorious century old leader Luca McCain and the witch Ariella. The most powerful witch of all. Before we could escape the pack house went up in flames and my mum struggled to pull me out of the rubble. My dad was busy fighting with Luca he couldn't help us. We tried to run in the woods but the vampires were faster in super speed, and due to Ariella's curse my mum and the entire pack couldn't morph. We were surrounded, and I was hiding behind her. She had her double silver blades at hand. Even without morphing my mother was a brave warrior. She fought the vampires tooth and nail. Injured a few, bit some and others had to ran. But she took some hits. And she couldn't run anymore. "Go Kai, run get out of here!" She said crawling on the ground, bleeding profusely. It made me sad to see her weak, beaten and buttered. "I can't leave you mum" "You can, leave get out of here!" "No! Am not leaving without you" I said trying to help her back on her feet. "Your stubborn boy" she hissed as we crept away, she was heavy but I was determine to leave with her. But luck was not on our side. In front of us was the witch Ariella in a vintage red cloak with a hood covering her head. Her eyes glowing red like hot iron and her hands blazing with a blue never ending flame. Standing on the ground, the plants and grass around her withered as she walked towards us. "Woman to woman, let my son go!" Mum begged going on her knees. I went down with her my gaze fixed on the very witch everyone was afraid of. She started chanting and all the roots seemed to sprout from the ground, a dark cloud covered us, lightning flashed in the dark skies and thunder struck before droplets of blood started hitting our skins. A strong wind shook the trees threatening to uproot them as they swayed from side to side. With a swipe of her hand she dragged me on the blood soaked ground towards her. My mum tried to come to my rescue but the roots held her arms and feet, I could hear her scream from a distance and feel our pack members die one after another at the same time. Ariella hoisted me up high in the air and then looked at me in the eyes. She grabbed my neck and I felt her claws bury deep through my skin. "Please!" Mum begged, "Let my son go! You can have me" Mum groaned angrily freeing herself from the roots. She distracted Ariella and stubbed her in the womb with her sword. She dropped me on the ground screaming in pain, everything reverted back to normal and she disappeared floating in the air like dust. "Are you okay?" Mum asked picking me up from the ground. "Yes, where is dad?" "Am here let's go" he came from behind riding in a car with a broken windscreen and a flat tire. He had to park it and help me get mum on it. She was badly wounded. "Where are the others?" Mum asked as dad drove out of the woods like a mad person. "They are all dead, we should get as far from here as we can" That's how we escaped the onslaught of Ariella and the vampires. Our pack would be the first on their hit list, they went on to attack every pack. Until there were no packs and vampire covens anymore. But Luca was still alive hiding somewhere in the world. My father might have buried the hatchet but I hadn't, I kept training with a view to kill Luca one day, hunt him down and make him pay for the deaths of my pack members that kept taunting me every night in addition to the few minutes I was in the claws of Ariella. That was the beginning of my insomnia, at night I would have weird dreams. My dad would use the pack resources we had at our disposal and build himself a business empire. We lived among the humans, and took new identities. My mother miraculously lost her werewolf power after a couple of years. And she was surprisingly happy about it. She saw being a werewolf as a burden that had gotten her kind exterminated from the face of the earth. Little did she know in the near future she was going to need the same powers to keep herself alive. In the version I gave Lynn, that evening when we got attacked by four SUV's, those were dad's business enemies. Being rich came with a target on our backs and we didn't see it coming. If only she was still a werewolf she would have protected herself from her aggressors. And I blamed myself for not being old enough to protect my mum the same way she protected me from Ariella and of course being the reason she was on the road that late. ***End of flashback*** When I got home my father was angrily waiting in my living room, pacing up and down with a glass of whiskey. The moment he lay his eyes on me he threw the glass towards me and I evaded it with cat like agility. Perhaps he was forgetting I was his alpha now. A werewolf in my prime, strong fast and super agile. "Am sorry dad, we can talk now can we?" "I don't appreciate you disrespecting that woman. Whether you like it or not she is your mother!" "So you think I didn't come because of her?" "Then why did you stand me up like a fool?" He was lucky I had just spend some quality time with the cure of my insanity. Both my wolf and I were feeling way better than usual. For the first time I was going to take all his bullshit. "Clearly you don't look like someone I'd share good news with, have you eaten?" I asked collapsing in the couch. "She took care of you when you really needed a mother despite your stubbornness that woman took care of you like her own son!" "You and her tried to replace mum. For the record I didn't need her, I was old enough to take care of myself all I needed was you to support me. But you didn't!" "Your mother's death did you a favor! Because of it you became stronger and an alpha by sheer will of your own force, it humbled you improved your virtue. She died so you can survive!" "Dad!" I growled my iris glowing a perfect red as I left my seat, my canines sprouted, “Take back everything you said!" "Or what? You're going to fight with your old man?" He said with a snort getting closer to me. He knew I wouldn’t raise my hand on him, "you should have killed me instead and make me join your mother, it was the easiest way to be an alpha but you're a coward" "No am not like you dad, now get out!" I ordered morphing back to human. He was no true alpha. My dad was a beta it the moonlight pack who killed his brutal alpha and stole the power. Lucky for him he had the support of the entire pack. "This is my property you're chasing me out of son. You can't keep carrying the guilt of your mother's death like a little b***h, I loved that woman more than you did and I feel the pain. But you know what being a man is? Feeling the pain but not giving in into it, not letting it control you. You're setting up vigil like a bat because you let it control you, accept the reality you're not getting any younger" he said in my face and walked away. He had no idea how much he got under my skin. But if nature could be bargained with, I would have asked for my mother instead of being a useless alpha, bossing among the weak humans and who couldn't even catch sleep due to childhood trauma. It was true, my mother's death shaped me. It changed me, taught me about survival since I felt like I was all alone and my step mother Isabella didn't put me through hell, how could she? At fourteen when I first morphed I was huge and more powerful than her. She took care of me like a mother would have. Honestly, I didn't even know why I found all girls except Lynn, dull as dishwater. I'd like them in the beginning then all of a sudden a wave of their annoyance would hit me like a tsunami from nowhere. It has nothing to do with maids mistreating me and I really wished I could tell her this truth because the next time we met was officially the best day of my entire life.
