“Michael?” I asked, just to be sure he was the one who was actually calling me.
“Abby.”
His response was short.
His voice was flat and there wasn’t any hint of remorse.
“I’d been expecting you to call me, but you didn’t,” he continued when I remained silent.
I was too dumbfounded to speak. His audacity was baffling. The truth was that I still hadn’t processed what was happening.
It felt like a dream.
A bad dream I needed to wake up from.
“You were expecting me to call you?” I huffed. “After doing something so diabolical, you still wanted me to reach out to you?”
