Sadie POV Today is the day of my engagement ball. Any other girl would be excited, ecstatic even, at the idea of a big, glamourous, showy, ball to show off her fiancee and her engagement, but not me. I woke up this morning feeling dread in the pit of my stomach and like a prisoner being dragged to the hangman's noose. Even the weather failed to cheer me, the clear blue sky and gorgeous warmth of the sun a mockery of my misery. Gray sensing my mood, kept mainly to himself, in the corner of the bedroom, laying on his stomach, his head between his paws, a sympathetic look on his face. I debated ignoring my father's summons to the throne room as a guard knocked on the door, but something instinctively told me that today was not the day to challenge him.
