Inspector Wilf Grenfell watched Jim walk out of his office and sighed. The poor bastard didn't stand a chance. This investigation of the arsons wasn't going anywhere. The video of Dupreis in war paint had lit a fire under some people in Ottawa and they put together a high-powered task force and sent them to Spruce Bay to uproot what might be a First Nations' terrorist threat. Wasn't the first such task force. Even if Jim hadn't called they would have shown up and taken over. His call just made it easier. What would doom Jim was they hadn't learned anything new. They had fancy maps; they'd been to the scenes. Autopsies of the victims showed the three bodies had died before they burned. But the perpetrators had just vanished into the wilderness.
