As we near the reef I can almost sense her! I’m leaning out the hanger door. Like some kind of fool who has a death wish!
Scanning the sea and coral for her.
I know she’s close and I feel panicked for some reason. I click my neck and give the muscles on my shoulders a roll to try to loosen the tension. But then the hair on the back of my neck stands up. There are creatures not of this world here. Zada can sense others of a different kind. Each of us hold our own magic and this is what he can sense.
“We got real unfriendly peeps down there Dar, heads up” I message through
My headset, hearing Dar’s growl of reply.
“I got eyes on them” he drawls lazily.
Dar is a master pilot, there is no one else on this type of mission I’d rather have at my back.
He’s a mobster behind a Tommy-gun.
His back ground is similar to mine, thrown out of his pack by his younger brother I think. Or overthrown seeing as his brother is the Alpha now.
That’s why Dar’s working on my tiny island, Lord help his brother if he ever crosses paths with him. Our boss keeps a very short leash on Dar for this very reason and his mother too. We’re all scared of Ma she’ll whip you with a tea towel, quicker than you can speak a single word!
I do look forward to the day Dar chews the lease off though, I plan to be there and help him. Not that I’ll tell the boss that. Even though Zada has been very quiet for ages. He made this clear we would help the wolf reclaim his pack. He doesn’t usually like anyone Zada. But he likes Dar and through the long years of working together him and Dar’s wolf have a respect for each other.
Whether it’s my past that makes me want to help Dar, or just the thought of a good old fight. A fight between were’s, is always welcomed by Zada. He likes to stretch his legs every so often and have a real competitor for once.
We know the werewolves we have met cannot do what Zada does. They are unable to move as fast as he is. Though Dar’s wolf moves nearly just as fast. Also matching Zada in size too.
Kasy’s there on the horizon and a big ship is just coming up behind them. If I could make it I would already be down there, with her in my arms.
I really need to get a grip on this, I will not have her in my arms other than to protect her! What is wrong with me.
I make out what appears to be 4 demons from the next boat, they are attaching a walk plank onto Kasy’s.
Kasy seems to be partly under water. I wonder if she actually does know her powers and they are all in for a big shock, when she surfaces and kicks their butt’s. I smile to myself an image of her with flashing magic all around her comes to my mind.
From up here they seem to be lower level demons. Pawns in a game of chess. They take their human source over, with some promise of riches or fortune. The human host then starts to decompose. Not at a normal rate, a very slow rate. But unless they can get the demon out within around 2 days, then their soul is taken and the demon controls their body till its of no use anymore. Even these pawns to humans are deadly, the kindest thing when we find them is to kill them and release their souls from suffering.
“Their right ahead big guy, get us up over the clouds and we’ll drop and hover over them" I say through my headset to Darren.
“All’s good were going up now my man”
We disappear into the cloud coverage. I can feel the plane go into halo mode and we slowly and quietly start to drift down again. I’m searching through the clouds I can hear her and it sounds like she’s fighting.
They’re already trying to steal her away!
Rage fills me suddenly after years and years of me and my beast living side by side happily in harmony with each other.
He is why we were thrown out of the pack. The were-leopards pack in England was only small. It is now non existent obviously after Zada and I grew up and took our revenge.
Zada is a white leopard, that is why we were kicked out. That is why we are different and deemed unworthy.
After his years of quietness and peace....
He is ramming at the gate in my mind to take over. He’s shifted our hands into paws with massive claws. He has not done anything like this in years!
My shoulders increase 3 times the size of normal. Thankfully my suits for work are made of special material that can withstand a partial shift. Even a full shift I can get out of them after I’ve shifted.
My teeth are massive big cat canines now and I know my eyes are bright orange from the change.
“What’s gotten into you?” I’ve gotten so very used to not having him like this anymore!
The elders of the pack had said when they saw our half form, that we were a beast inside an animal.
They had seen Zada partially shift forms and his ability to slow down the very essence of time around us. Or we posses the capability to move so fast that we bend the fabrication of time.
We’ve never cared which way round it is. It is just who we are.
He’s still barging at my mind trying to take over. His voice rumbles
“Let me free Cee we must save the girl”
Zada calls me Cee as I’ve had many names over the years all start with a C. His voice brings out the ee more though. As its deap and sounds ancient.
I’m trying to calm the inner beast and maintain control whilst hanging out of a door slowing dropping lower in a plane.
I realise this isn’t the best situation to be in at all and I need to control Zada now before I’m doing a massive belly flop into the sea or worse the boat we are obviously above.
“Zada you hate water” I exclaim in my mind.
“We’ll stay this way and save her” He replies with no hesitation. Being dormant for so many years and now he is participating.

Darren shouts through the headset
“Down down down! You have 30 seconds to retrieve the female and secure her to the plane. Bro” I sigh
“30seconds!! you wound me Dar” I say in mock offence.
I give a chuckle and leap as time slows Zada enters half our mind, in unison absolutely perfect half and half that we had perfected over the years. But it’s been so long since we were like this
“stronger together” Zada acknowledged.
