I have been here at the pack now for seven years. When Jasper and Joshua said that I wasn’t going anywhere, they were telling the truth. I don’t know how they managed to make it happen, but I was now part of their pack. Yes, you heard right, a pack. I found out during an attack a few months after arriving that they were Lycans and werewolves. I was excited because I thought it was something I read in books or saw in movies, but no. It is real. During the years I have learned all about the supernatural world especially about Lycans and werewolves. I also felt out of place staying in a castle and getting everything I could ever imagine without doing anything, so I decided to help the Omegas around and the farmers.

I wanted to earn everything I have gotten. Jasper, or should I say the King wasn’t happy about it but when I stop accepting what the things he was giving me he agreed in me helping around but not to exert myself and to always do my schoolwork. I also found out that Jasper is my mate. Once I got to know about Lycans and werewolves I also learned about what mates were and meant. Not to mention the sparks don’t lie. But I wonder why he hasn’t told me that I’m his mate.

After the incident at the waterfall last year, I was hurt and angry because of the rejection. After that night I began to have nightmares about my foster dad which caused me to lose sleep and I decided not to sleep, but it was the worst idea ever. My body was failing me and I ended up falling asleep only to wake up screaming with Jasper holding me. So, I told him what happened that day Joshua and him found me in the forest. To say he was angry was an understatement. After that, I forgot about it the incident at the waterfall and move on.

I had just finished my math assignment and was making my way to the stairs when the front door opened and Jasper stumbled in with Brenda in his arms. Brenda is one of the she wolves from this pack. She’s also a great warrior. Could this be why he hasn’t told me we are mates? Because I’m not a wolf, a Lycan, or a warrior? Brenda kisses Jasper before passing by me like I don’t even exist. I stay frozen in the same spot watching them go up the stairs where Jasper picks Brenda up and throws her over his shoulder making her squeal. I don’t know how long I stand there for until I heard footsteps coming out of the rec room. I looked to see it was Joshua with his mate, Bianca and I instantly feel their eyes on me.

“Yamilet, are you okay?” Joshua asks. My hand goes to my chest feeling another pain.

“Yes, I’m okay” I lied and I had a feeling he knew I was lying.

“Joshua, if I ask you something will you tell me the truth?” I asked.

“Of course” he said.

“What is the relationship between Brenda and Jasper?” I asked, looking at him, and I watched him stiffen before looking at his mate. Joshua sighed, running a hand through his hair.

“Brenda and Jasper used to date, but the day we found you in the forest they broke up. They are not together anymore, even though she wants him back”, Joshua explains, and everything clicks into place. The attacks by different rogues the past two years wanting to kill me, the first rogue that attacked me telling me the name of Brenda who paid him to attack me. Brenda telling me that one day I will get what is coming to me and how the last rogue had a faint smell of her scent. I guess I was too quiet for Joshua’s liking.

“Yamilet, there is nothing going on between Brenda and Jasper” Joshua said.

“That’s not what it looked like” I murmured to myself, but of course they heard me.

“What are you talking about?” Joshua asked.

“Nothing. I’m going to go to bed. I have school in the morning” I said before going up to my room, or so I thought. I suddenly found myself outside. As I get closer to my room, which is in the East wing where Jasper’s room is, I start to hear moaning and my heart breaks all over again. I run to the woods and I realized I was crying. I don’t remember the last time I cried, but I can tell you this… is the first time in years. I can feel the pain of Jasper’s betrayal getting stronger by the second. My knees give out and I fall to the cold ground. I suffer in silence, never making a sound until I can’t take the pain anymore. I was becoming hard to breath. It feels like I’m dying. Can someone die of a broken heart? It’s the only thought that comes to my mind as everything goes black.

(Third person P.O.V)

As Yamilet’s eyes close, the only thought that went through her mind is that she felt like she was dying. She had no idea how true that was. The betrayal of her mate was killing her, literally. As everything turned black for Yamilet, she also took her last breath.

Inside the castle, Joshua couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something wrong with Yamilet. Joshua has been Yamilet’s personal bodyguard, and he has protected her like a little sister.

“Do you want me to go check on her?” Bianca, Joshua’s mate asked.

“No, she’s probably asleep. She has a test tomorrow” Joshua told his mate, who nodded.

“Then what’s bothering you?” Bianca asked her mate.

“I don’t know. I mean, I have a feeling that there’s something wrong, but I can’t put my finger on it” Joshua admitted.

“Could it be Marvin?” Bianca asked. Marvin is Joshua’s and Jasper’s eldest brother. No one dares to talk about him. Marvin had done horrific things to his own family and pack. Marvin thought he was in line to become King. He wanted power… he was hungry for it, but when the day came King Hunter, the previous King named his second son, Jasper, the new King. Why would the previous king do that? Because he knew that if Marvin became king the kingdom and maybe even the world would suffer. King Hunter knew his eldest son just wanted power but didn’t realized what extends his own son would go to get it. Marvin found a dark witch and got his hands on a rare poison made with wolfsbane and moonseeds. The mixture has to be done during the blood moon and once ingested it’s instantly fatal. Marvin had made brownies, his parents’ favorite, and mixed in the poison. After Marvin gave his parents their share, some pack members wanted to try the Prince’s brownies, only to die second after eating the brownies.

Everyone wanted Marvin to die for his crime and Jasper was close to killing him but decided not to. He wanted Marvin to live with what he had done to their parents and pack members. Marvin was banished from the pack and branded with the mark of the Royal Pack. This way, whoever saw this mark would know that he was banished for a horrible crime. Little did Jasper know that Marvin didn’t care about killing his parents because all he wants it’s power.

“No, it’s not him, though I know one day he will come back and challenge Jasper for the throne. He should have killed Marvin when he had the chance, just like he killed that witch who gave him the poison” Joshua said.

“I’m sure it’s nothing baby. Like you said, Yamilet is in her room resting. If something is wrong I'm sure she will go to Jasper or run to our room. Now you should rest and hopefully your headache would go away. I love you” Bianca told her mate.

"I love you too"Joshua kissed her lips before closing his eyes and, after a few minutes sleep overtook him. Only if he knew how true his feelings were.

Back in the forest the wind is picking up. All the critters had gone quiet making the guards look at each other before linking each other to make sure everything was okay at the other borders. Not finding anything wrong they continued with their work.

Yamilet’s body burst into flames like nothing had ever been seen before. After a few seconds the fire dies down and Yamilet opens her eyes, sitting up. Never knowing that he had just died, making her Phoenix come to life.
